Mark Hamill skips appearance with Star Wars cast on The Graham Norton Show to visit sick children at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital

He’s been jetting all over the world to promote the seventh chapter in the Star Wars franchise.
But there was one very special stop Mark Hamill wanted to make when the cast of The Force Awakens arrived in London last week.
The actor, who reprises his role as Luke Skywalker in the record breaking film, skipped an appearance with his co-stars Carrie Fisher, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley on The Graham Norton Show to visit London’s famed Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The actor told The Independent that he felt the visit was his best way of giving back during his short trip to London, which hosted the European premiere of The Force Awakens last week.
‘Star Wars movies are meant to be a couple of hours of diversion from reality, and we need that. They are optimistic and hopeful stories. But in comparison to what we can do with this [the hospital], last night [the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens] is very trivial,’ he said.
Doing his bit: The 64-year-old actor said he felt the visit was his best way of giving back during his short trip to London, which hosted the European premiere of The Force Awakens
The movie’s global weekend intake is reportedly now set at $528 million, outrunning the record previously set by Jurassic World at $524.9 million.
Star Wars’ latest installment also set the record for the biggest single day in UK industry history, taking an estimated £9.6million on its opening day.
Midnight screenings alone accounted for £2.4million of Thursday’s box office, smashing all previous records, with fans flocking to cinemas in the early hours of the morning to catch a first glimpse.
The phenomenal success of the new Star Wars film confirms that the Walt Disney Co.’s 2012 acquisition of LucasFilm back in 2012 for a staggering $4 billion wasn’t such a high-priced gamble after all.
